Here’s another in Dwig’s series that I call “Message in the Mirror”, but the reverse of the cards tell me is just Series #30. I like my name better. Did you notice that this miss seems to receive love confession postcards on the wholesale plan? Check out the edge of her mirror. A lot of these fellows wasted their one cent stamps.
This lovely card was given special attention by the postmark person, who managed to deface both sides of the card with giant cancels. Thanks, bub.
Still hoping to hear from some postcard expert who can tell me the manufacturer of these cards. Logo on the reverse is consistent on these: a little fellow wearing a smock on which is shown the Swiss cross, and in one hand is a beer stein and the other a U.S. flag. Is it Kaplan?
It would seem the sizes of the cards in the mirror and in her hand have nothing to do with the message ON the mirror.
The scrawl in lipstick on the glass was backwards writing, so I read it in another mirror. it says "Please don't let me kill again!"
The 1909 copyright register lists two different series for Kaplan (Rose), the "How Can You Do It?" and "Fortune Teller" series. So if you have samples from either of those series, and they have the same trademark, then it would be Kaplan.
I've actually checked on eBay for a few samples form the "Fortune Teller" series, and at least one that I found has the same trademark. So it is R. Kaplan.
